DRIVE TO HANKOW
MAJOR SUCCESSES
ADMITTED BY CHINESE
(Received August 27, 11.50 a.m.) HANKOW, August 26. The first major successes by. " the Japanese in their drive to Hankow, including the capture of Juichang, are now admitted by the Chinese. Yuchingshan Hill, which guards Poyang Lake, has also been captured, 1700 being killed. The Japanese are advancing slowly in the face of very fierce resistance. General Chu Teh, commander of the Chinese Communist Bth Route Army, says that his men have fought 600 engagements in one year, inflicting 34,000 casualties on the Japanese and taking 2000 prisoners. He is quite confident that the Chinese will push the Japanese back to the sea.
