DAY IN PARLIAMENT
PROGRESS WITH ESTIMATES
Though urgency was taken for thirteen classes of Departmental Estimates in the House of Representatives yestrday, disposal of twelve of them was considered, apparently, to be a fair day's work, and the House adjourned an hour before its usual time with the vote for Agriculture still unapproved. The votes passed were Justice and Prisons,- Crown Law Office, Internal Affairs, Pensions, State Forests, Valuation, Public Trust, Government Insurance, State Fire Office, Accident Insurance, and National Provident Fund, the total appropriation for these being £9,335,433. During the three and a half days on which Estimates have been considered, votes aggregating the sum of £22,652,570 have been passed, which is reasonably good progress. Discussion on yesterday's Estimates was largely of a routine nature, and no sensational disclosures were made hj the Ministers in charge of the various Departments concerned in reply to members' questions.
On Tuesday afternoon local Bills are to be considered. There are nine of them on the Order Paper. In the evening an Imprest Supply Bill will be introduced, so a late sitting is in prosr<?rt.
