BLOMFiELD-DETTON BOUT

The wrestling bout at Auckland last Monday night between "Lofty" Blomfleld and Dean Detton proved to be the most memorable event since Blomfield and McGready met in the same ring last year. A record crowd packed the Town Hall to capacity and the bout gave rise to the greatest enthusiasm. There was only one unsatisfactory feature and that was in the. manner in which the bout was decided. Blpmfield, with Detton suffering from the effects of a vigorous application of the octopus clamp, was making a strong bid for the deciding fall when Detton came at him with a flying tackle. The New Zealander checked him with a judiciously applied knee to the stomach and the referee promptly awarded the bout to the American. To say that it was one of the most unpopular decisions ever given in Auckland would be putting it mildly and many of the spectators strongly asserted afterwards that they had seen Blomfield do nothing to merit his disqualification. Although Blomfleld feels that he was treated rather harshly he, as usual, does not wish to dwell upon what is past and done with. He is ■ satisfied, however, that the bout proved that he has what it takes to beat the former world champion. He has had a chance to measure up Detton in the latter's present form and he is confident that from this stage he can go ahead and take Detton into camp. It is understood that several associations have already masked the Dominion Union iq. $sM ihjn% jbi mum siatcfe 2* k
