MR. THOMPSON'S DENIAL
In reply to the Labour Election Com- j mittee's statement, Mr. Thompson) writes: "With respect to the statement from j Mr. R. G. Morgan (chairman) and Mr. C. G. Plummer (secretary) respectively of the Upper Hutt Election Committee of the New Zealand Labour Party, referring to a meeting held at Upper Hutt, addressed .by Mrs. Bodkin and Mr. Justin Power, it is alleged I made the following statement, namely, 'If you want the freedom to worship abolished, put Labour back into office at the forthcoming election and that is what you will get.' I did not make this statement, nor did I say anything from which the above words could be reasonably inferred. "I am quite satisfied the chairman of the meeting, Mr. J. M. Fleming, and also Mrs. Bodkin and Mr. Justin Power, who were on the platform, would substantiate that what I say in this letter is tru.6. "Beyond this denial I do not propose to take further notice of this incident",
