LOSS OF £81,000
FOUR WEEKS' WORKING
An abstract of railway working accounts, gazetted last night, covering the four-weekly period ending July 23, shows that the gross revenue for the four weeks was £585,516, which was £3264 more than a year ago. Expenses were increased by £61,639 to £666,787. The working loss of £81,271 compares with a loss of £22,897 during the corresponding period of the previous year. The operating account for the North Island shows a revenue of £301,243, a decrease of £11,416, and expenses totalling £358,729, an increase of £38,207. There was a loss of £57,486 compared with a loss of £7863 last year. The receipts of the South Island railways were £193,465, a decrease of £4823, and expenses were £237,926, or £7053 higher. There was a working loss of £44,461, compared with a loss of £32,585. The balance of miscellaneous revenue was £20,676, compared with £17,551 in 1937. The gross revenue was £90,808 and the expenditure £70,132. For the period from April 1 to July 2 3the net revenue was £44,114, compared with £171,500 last year, a decrease of £127,386. The gross revenue was £2,692,995, an increase of £105,418. The expenditure was £2,648,881, an increase of £232,804.
