Sir,—With reference to a statement of alleged Australian views concerning the Onekaka Iron and Steel project made by Mr. C. C. Davis at Christchurch on July 8, the following resolution was carried at the annual conference of the New Zealand Workers' Union today:—

"That this national conference of the New Zealand Workers' Union representing 30,000 workers takes exception to the remarks published by Mr. j C. C. We i affirm that with loyal and efficient! workers and capable administration of which Mr. Davis has no monopoly the Government's action in safeguarding! for our people for all time this valuable asset and thus creating a much- | needed national industry, is in the best interests of the people of New Zealand. We further pledge o,ur loyalty | and co-operation to the Government to bring to successful fruition this enter- i prise and. we express the opinion that where private enterprise has failed, the people's Government will succeed." The motion was introduced by thej Hon. F. E. Lark and was seconded by I Mr. J. G. Leckie, of Timaru, who stated that Mr. Davis's remarks, were obviously a propagandist attempt to discredit the Labour Government. Conference carried the resolution by acclamation.—l am, etc., R.
