A welcome on behalf of the New Zealand; Government was extended by the Minister of Education (the Hon. F,£|*Easer) to the American negro debaters, Mr. J. S. Byas and Mr. C. W. Gilton, and their manager, Professor B. G. Alexander, of Le Moyne College, Memphis, Tennessee, at an informal reception given by Mr. and Mrs. Fraser yesterday afternoon. Many people prominently associated with education in New Zealand were present.

Professor T. A. Hunter, on behalf of the University of New Zealand, and Mrl R.*Edgeley, on, behalf of the New Zealand University* Students* Association, which is sponsoring the tour, also extended a welcome to the visitors, each of whom suitably replied.

Earlier yesterday afternoon the three visitors addressed a gathering of secondary school pupils in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall. Professor Alexander spoke of the growth of Le Mpyne.College, and Mr. Byas and Mr. Gilton dealt with the influence of the negroes on the culture of America.

After visiting Victoria College, the visitors left last.night for, the South Island, where they will engage in two or three public debates. On their re? turn to Wellington on July 20 they are to debate against representatives of Victoria College.
