PANDORA SOCIETY

GIPSY ENCAMPMENT

Credit is due to the producer, performers, and helpers for their obvious keenness and co-operation during rehearsals and production of th.e "GipsyInterlude" recently staged at the Pandora Society's room in Victoria Street. It was a typical example of what can be done when all are enthusiastic, as the whole entertainment, comprising songs, ballets, and dialogue, was prepared and produced in three weeks. The stage was effectively turned into a gipsy encampment, with the traditional caravan, tent, fireplace, etc., effectively toned with amber lighting.

The performers included Nola Cunningham, Joan Kerr, Maud Elsmore, Gae Cousins, Berhie Webb, Brian Elsmore, Alex. Thomson, and Leonard Walker. Solo dances were provided by Dorothy and Eva Bennett, and the chorus and ballet comprised Lois Crowe, Jean Sharp, Betty Collie. Margaret Brown, and Doris Cree. J. Just draped his six-foot form with a little child's frock, providing the necessary humour as the kidnapped daughter of the local squire. Mrs. Crowin and Mr. R. Henry excelled as accompanists. The production was in the capable hands of Mrs. D. Clark.

The comfort of the audience, was catered for by a coal fire and comfortable chairs, and all were thoroughly warmed up after supper by a most enjoyable dance.

A three-act play reading is next on the schedule, to be followed by a variety evening, including a ladies' choir and / a one-act comedyentitled "A Hopeless Muddle.", This play is to be performed by a new cast of players to the dramatic section of the club and a good night's entertainment is assured.

Very few people will need to be reminded of the Plunket Society's Ball at the Town Hall tonight, but those who wish to be "eleventh hour" folk and come in to see the beauties of flowers, etc., provided for guests' pleasure may like a last word. There will be some crooning by girls, as well as the ballets, and the supper will be of. the "home-made" .variety*
