To Say Ail Revoir. A most enjoyable time was spent recently when friends gathered at the home of Miss Kathleen Slater, to bid au revoir to Miss Beryl Aldous, who will be. leaving' for Sydney in a few days.'"those present were:—Mdsdames' R. H. Potts, Peter Carswell, A. Davison, Ted Thompson, and Misses E. Knight, O. Pope, P. Young, K. Slater B. Aldous, J. Waddilove, and L. Pope. "Old Contemptibles'" Dance. A very enjoyable dance was held by members and friends of the Old Contemptibles' Association,at the Oriental Cabaret, Courtenay Place. It was very gratifying' to see such a good attendance at'the first dance of the season, and it is hoped that as the season progresses these monthly events will attract the support they deserve. The orchestra provided an excellent musical programme, and did much to make the dance a success. Old-time and modern dances were enjoyed by all irrespective of age. Many good musical and special dance items were supplied by visitors. Those particularly enjoyed were by Miss Anderson (Spanish dance), Mr. C. Dixon (comic songs), Mr. N. Walsh (tap dance), Mr. and Mrs. Muirhead (Irish sketch), Messrs. "Walsh, Dixon, Don, Muirhead (topical sketch), Miss Pat Snelgrove (song). Mrs. Walsh accompanied the vocalists. The Monte Carlo prize was won by Miss Betty Sparks and partner. The dance went with a swing throughout and it was a regret to all that it was time to go home when the "King" was played at midnight. Y.M.C.A. Ladies' Auxiliary. A very pleasant afternoon was spent when members of the Y.M.C.A. Ladies' met yesterday in the association rooms. There was a'very good attendance and Mrs. R. S. Maunder presided. Arrangements" were finalised for the jumble sale to be held in July j in St. Thomas's Hall, Newtown. The] members were pleased to know' that Mrs. R. S. Adams had consented to act as assistant secretary to the auxiliary. During the afternoon tea was served. ! Nursing Division. At a recent meeting of the Wellington South Nursing Division Mrs; Be.tts (superintendent) congratulated Mrs. Crone on her marriage, and extended to her the best wishes of the members. She also welcomed Miss Emerson, who recently rejoined the division. It was announced that the annual re-examina-tion would take place on July 19, the examiners being Dr. Sylvia Chapman and Dr. Luke. In preparation for this a very profitable evening, of questions and answers on home nursing was spent. The cadets under Miss R. McCarthy and Mrs. Miles received instruction in first aid and drill. Successful Card Party. The weekly card party of the Kilbirnie auxiliary branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association, held at the club rooms, Bay Road, this week, was well attended, and the evening passed very pleasantly. At the close of play the winners were:—Bridge, Mrs. R. V. A.1 Knox and Mr. E. Strange; "500", Mrs. L; Thomas and Mr. E. Strange; competitions, Mr. A. Cnarman and Mrs. J. McClatchey. During the supper interval, the chairman, Mr. D. Gunn, thanked the guests for their continued support, and announced the following fixtures for this month:— Ladies' afternoon, every Thursday, and a social evening on Thursday week, when, the ladies' auxiliary would present a new radio set to the club. Social Afternoon. A very pleasant social afternoon party was held by Mrs. G. "d'Emden on behalf of the Wellington South African War Veterans' Association at the clubrooms, Lambton Quay, on Wednesday afternoon. Bridge and "500" were played. Mrs. R. V. A. Knox won at bridge, and at "500" Mrs., M. Savery tied with Mrs. W; G. Catton, the former winning by a narrow margin after a play-off. Afternoon tea was dispensed, and the guests left in a very happy mood. A similar function will be held \sy the ladies' auxiliary on the third Wednesday of this month. J
