PROFITABLE CHOICE

ROYAL TINGE TAKES MILE

A happy choice was made by Royal Tinge's connections In avoiding Shining Hours in the Trial Plate and taking on The Wrecker under handicap conditions in the Petone Handicap. The Wrecker proved to be of no danger whatever, and Royal Tinge was too good for the rest of the field. Royal Tinge lay in second place following War Lap to the straight, then he ran past the leader and went on to score decisively by three lengths from two outsiders. Sunbeam and Auto

Sweep. '■.-■■■ This was Royal Tinge's second win in succession, as he opened Ms. account a fortnight ago at the Dannevurke Hunt Meeting, and now that he has at last come into form after biding his own time he promises to go on to mueft better deeds. He is a fine-looking big stamp of a gelding by Royal Divorce from the Bisogne—Musical Moment mare Royal Queen, a half-sister to Tupurangi, Royal King, Golden Chest, and Maestro, hence he hails from a stout Okawa family, as Musical Moment was a sister to Right and :i*eft, Great Charter, and Phoenix Park. A high opinion was held about this horse by Mr. W. T. Bailey, who raced him at first, and this, opinion was shared by Mr. W. H. Gaisford, who bought him some time back. It is Mr. Gaisford's view that he will eventually make a great jumper, and he has probably taken a long sight on the Nationals with him.

Sunbeam, who was forced, off the course on the first day, ran. on in better style for second. He was some way back till the straight; but then came through well. Auto Sweep, who has developed into a fine-looking colt, gained third prize by staying on best of the remainder. He was slow to get moving, but he showed good stamina at the close in going over the worst ground through an opening along the rail. He has an unusual action, carrying his head very low. Gold Glare looked a place prospect at the top of the straight but stopped into just a fair fourth. Hamarin was the only other still going, War Lap and Great Bramble failing to come on in the straight after being first and third respectively in most of the running. Several of the field simply walked to the post, including The Wrecker, who was more than twice as. well backed •as the winner. «
