WEIGHT-LIFTING DETECTIVE
There was great excitement over the weight-lifting championship at Taumarunui winter show, states the "Taumarunui Press." Men from all parts of the surrounding districts were keen contestants for the silver cup, men from 18 to eight stone competing. Detective N. Bayliss, of Wanganui, whoyis of medium build, stepped on to the plates to record 9801b. It was at this stage that excitement ran high, men of wonderful physique and all sizes trying to beat the lift set by Detective Bayliss. Although there was very fine lifting recorded, (Only once was the detective's score in any danger, when Mr. H. Valder took the scales to 8101b.
