MR. A. R. BARNES

Mr. A. R. Barnes, a highMy respected resident of Taita, died at' his home recently.

, \ Born at Belper, Derbyshire, England, in 1883, he arrived in. Nsw Zealand in 1901 and commenced business as a paint and wallpaper merchant. He retired from business to take up farming. For many years he was a director of the Wellington Dairy Farmers' Co-operative Association arid, the Hutt Valley Loan and Deposit Company. In his earlier days Mr. Barnes was a keen bowler, being a foundation member of the Hataitai Club, and. later of the Wellington Club. He was keenly interested in music and was a former member of the Wellington Harmonic Society and the Wellington Choral Union.' He was also a member of Renown Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his widow, a son, and a daughter.
