MR. ARTHUR PITT
The death occurred recently-at his home 370 The Parade, Island Bay, of Mr. Arthur Pitt(Fiti Porutu).
Mr. Pitt was born at; Thorndon in 1869 and was a son of the late Henare (Henry) Porutu, a very; old resident Of Lower Hutt. The name Porutu is linked with the early history of New Zealand, as the late Mr. Pitt's grand-; father, chief of the Ngatiawa tribe, was a signatory of. the Treaty of Waitangi. Although Mr. Pitt had resided at Island.Bay for the past fifteen years, he had previously spent about forty years at his residence at Naenae, Lower Hutt, being well known to many of the older residents there. He is survived by his widow, a son, Arthur Caleb Pitt, of Norsewdod, and a daughter, Miss M. Pitt, now of Wellington, but Jate. of the nursing staff of the Auckland Hospital.
