SEN ACRE'S CHANCE

NORTHERNERS AT MARTON

(Special from "Early Bird.")

AUCKLAND, June 30,

A few horses from the Auckland Province will be racing at the Marton Meeting tomorrow, and two or three of them should hold bright prospects of getting in the money, for all have displayed ability to act under the condijtions prevailing at this period of the year. King Mestor and Sinking Fund are in the hurdle race. The former raced twice at Te Rapa last Saturday, contesting the minor steeplechase and 'hurdle race. He balked in the former 'event and in his second outing was a very poor fifth. Sinking Fund had his first race over hurdles at Te Rapa last Saturday, and his showing, wretched at the outset of the race, improved as the contest proceeded. He was very slow at the first hurdle, and the second he knocked almost flat. After this, profiting by .the experience, he fenced much better, and after being over half a furlong behind in the first quarter, of a mile he managed to run on into fourth place. This was a promising display even if he was some fifteen lengths or so away from the winner, for the class was a bit above hack standard. He is in the right hands to develop into a firstclass jumper. Sen Acre was made favourite for the second division of the hack sprint at Te Rapa last Saturday, but was a long way back in the early stages, and never appeared likely to get out of the ruck. She is a smart galloper, and she should show up prominently tomorrow. ' , On form Te Hai is actually the best of the northern contingent, and in the Winter Stakes Handicap he will oppose a field that is by no means strong. At his last appearance in the north he finished a good second to Gold Vaals in the Opotiki Handicap at Tauranga, and since then has galloped very well at headquarters. On the minimum he is being given every chance, for he carried 7.9 at Tauranga. '
