BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY More than 21,000 trees have been planted by the Wellington Beautifying Society in the three years it has been in existence, 6760 in the past season, it was reported at the annual meeting of the society last evening. Roads, hills, and reserves in and around Wellington have been beauti- , fled, and there will be an extension of r activity in the future. The annual report stated that the membership of the society was not increasing as rapidly as was hoped. The president, Captain S. Holm, in his address, said that with a view to stirring enthusiasm plants had been given to many kindred societies, and this year plants from, the nursery would be growing as far north as Faraparaumij and in many districts of the South Island. He was extremely pleased to report that the Railway Department had 5 undertaken to plant that portion of the - Hutt Road adjoining the overhead i bridge from Aotea Quay.
