DINNER DANCE

NGA TAWA OLD GIRLS'

REUNION

Last year the members of the Nga Tawa Old Girls' Association held a tea dance to celebrate their annual reunion but this year they went one better by holding a dinner dance, which took place last night at the Mayfair Cabaret. A dinner dance is a somewhat unusual form of entertainment in Wellington but the committee's enterprise was well rewarded, there being no doubt about its being a highly successful venture. The "Old Girls" rallied round and supplied all the food for a most excellent buffet meal. There were hot soup, various kinds of cold meats and salads, ham and egg pie, ; innumerable sweets and savouries, and | many other good things to choose from. All this fare was laid out on two long tables, one.in either room. The tables were so laden that there was only just room for the decorations which were most original; little square brown crepe ! paper tubs holding three or four crepe paper tulips in the colours that are incorporated in the badge of the Old Girls' Association—brown, old gold, scarlet, and white. With the assistance of a number of attendants the guests chose their viands and carried them, cafeteria fashion, to the little cabaret tables arranged around the dance floors. Notwithstanding the lateness of the meal (it was arranged for 7 p.m. but people were still arriving at 8 o'clock) everyone was quite ready for the hot coffee and savouries Which were served later in the evening. Extra entertainment was provided by Miss Patsy Ashbolt, who gave an exhibition dance, and the dance band was in excellent form. , There were masses of jonquils, Iceland poppies and ferns arranged everywhere and a large replica of the school crest made of scarlet, white, and golden flowers attracted lots of admiring attention. Each member of the committee wore the school colours of brown' and gold, those on the committee being Mrs. Montgomerie Spencer (president), Miss Ula Ramsey (secretary), Mrs. Grenfell Morgan, Mrs. Wilfred Airey, Miss Thyra Gill, Mrs. Gordon Crimp, Miss Elizabeth Maclean, and Miss Ruth Wheeler.
