NEW SCHOOL BUILDINGS

Among the grants to the Wellington Education Board approved by the Education Department for new schools in the district is one for the erection Of a new Hutt Central school. This building will comprise eight standard open-air classrooms and subsidiary accommodation.

The Gladstone school is to be rebuilt with open-air classrooms, and additional accommodation is to be provided at Ohiro Bay. Manakau is to have a new teacher's residence. The board was authorised to call tenders for the remodelling of and additions to the Petone West school and also for additions to the Northland school.

The Department intimated to the board that for schools of grade IIIA and above the standard accommodation for teachers' residences shall be five rooms. This was characterised by several members of the board as a great advance and a reform long overdue.
