TRAINING TROOPS

CONFERENCE OF OFFICERS

For the purpose of discussing Territorial training methods, officers commanding units in the Central Military District met in conference in Wellington and their discussions concluded last night. Colonel I. T. Standish presided.

Army and district courses to be held during the training year 1938-39 were explained and the dates and locations set down for annual camps were announced. Some of these are subject to adjustment. As the training directive for the year deals with the employment of mechanised forces, most interesting and instructive work can be looked forward to by all units. The methods to be employed in making known the benefits of training in the Territorial Army were explained by the district publicity officer.

The conference was advised .of the issue to the district of one thousand of the new smart blue uniforms. Owing to manufacturing difficulties it had not been possible to secure enougU uniforms for immediate issue to all ranks, so it had been decided to fit out the non-commissioned officers first. The remainder of the troops will be supplied as soon as possible.

Many other matters concerning the welfare of the Territorials were discussed.
