WIN FOR INDIANS

HOCKEY IN TARANAKI

(By TelegrapH—Press Association.)

NEW PLYMOUTH, June 21,

The Indian hockey team beat a Taranaki team by five goals to one.j The weather was fine, but the ground was dead after rain, and was not to the Indians' liking. ■ ■ ' The Indians, although unable to develop their best tactics, nevertheless gave a clever display of stickwork and combination. Goals were scored for India by Hussain, Ahmad Khan (2), S. Khan, and Shahabuddin. For Taranaki, Murtagh scored. There was no question that on a dry ground the Indians would have increased the score considerably, but forceful play and hard hitting by the Taranaki men gave them a good share of the attack, and the team was not disgraced. The Indians, however, seemed to slacken- their efforts towards the end. The visiting team will meet another Taranaki representative side at Hawera on Thursday.
