PAEKAKARIKI CLUB

The fifth annual meeting of the Paekakariki Bowling Club was held last week, Mr. J. Firth presiding. The report showed that the finances of the club had been well maintained, the income showing a credit ■ balance which enabled the club to reduce the bank account by £100. The green self had received attention, and a gooa sward of grass was now showing. The club was unfortunate in losing the services of the secretary (Mr. J. Lindsay), who left the district. The membership had been well maintained, and an increase was expected. Thanks were extended to those who donated trophies and also to the Tennis Club for the use of its pavilion. - On January 30 the "Evening Post paid the club a visit, and after a most enjoyable day, went home victorious with several small trophies. During the visit Mr. Walter Blundell announced the donation of a silver cup for competition between the "Evening Post" staff and the Paekakariki Club, this event to be held annually, and to be known as the "Walter Blundell The first tournament for the trophy took place on March 19. A dull day and a heavy green were not ideal lor good bowling, but after a close contest and after the final count up had been made, Paekakariki proved the winners, and held the cup for the first time. "Our thanks are due to Mr. Blundell for his kind action and thoughtfulness in presenting this trophy. It will be an event which will be looked forward to with interest by both sides during the coming season.' The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Sir Charles Norwood; centre delegate, Mr. J. Kershaw; president, Mr. J. Firth; honorary secretary, Mr. A. J. Earley; honorary treasurer, Mr. J. O'Connell; committee, Messrs. S. E. Smith, F. R. Holborn, L. McAvoy, P. J. McArdle, R. Scott, D. Dufflll, and C. G. King; honorary auditor, Mr. E. Breeze. Trophies were presented as follows: —Singles: Dewar Cup and silver button, Mr. J. Milne (club champion). Pairs: Saunders Cup with two miniature cups, Messrs. L. McAvoy and J. Milne. Arthur Latv trophy: Messrs. L. McAvoy, D. Smith, T. Cooper, and H. Lynch. Goodwill trophy: Messrs. H. Sewell; W. Dufflll, J. Firth, and C. G. King. President's trophy: Mr. J. Milne.
