A passenger train travelling from Chicago to Seattle plunged into a creek at Saugus, Montana, when a bridge collapsed after heavy rain had undermined a pier. Thirteen persons were drowned and 40 injured. The engine, the baggage and mail cars, two coaches, and two sleeping carriages were submerged.
