Mr. H. P. Mourant, general secretary of the Bank Officers' Guild of New Zealand, is retiring after about 19 years' service, following' 22 years' service with the Bank of New South Wales. Mr. Mourant has been secretary of the guild since its establishment. The executive committee of the guild in announcing the retirement of Mr. Mourant described him as having "toiled night and day to , further its principles and advance its interests, and his decision to lay down his burden and seek the repose which is due to him at a stage when the guild is in a strong position was no doubt given with as acute feelings of regret on his part as it has been received on ours. His retirement will create a vacancy which will be difficult to fill."
Mr. F. R. Picot, Director of Internal Marketing, and Mrs. Picot arrived, by the limited from Auckland today.
Mr. W. Goodwin, who for the past three years has been Director of Agriculture at Rarotonga, arrived at Auckland by the Matua yesterday on leave.
Mr. M. J. Reardon, Conciliation Commissioner, will leave for- Nelson this evening.
Major-General Sir Andrew Russell, who arrived in Wellington from Hastings yesterday, will leave for the south tonight

Mr. A. Longmore, J.P., has been appointed treasurer to the Wellington Honorary Justices' Association in place of the late Mr. H. W. Lloyd.
Mr. J. R. Goldsmith, J.P., of Brooklyn; has accepted appointment to the executive of the Wellington ■ Honorary Justices' Association. :
