V.M.C.A. DEBATING CLUB
Both old. and new members of the V.M.C.A. Debating Club were represented at the annual meeting, held on, Thursday evening. Mr. V. C. Jones welcomed members, and said that he would maintain a keen interest in the club, debating being one of his hobbies. "It is the duty of everyone to be able to speak -as well standing up as he does sitting down," continued "Mr. Jones, "and by becoming a member of this club, you- are going the right way about carrying out that duty." The following officers were. elected:. President, Mr. Ponder; vice-presidents, Messrs. V. C. Jones, S. Keruse, and H. J. Steptoe; hon. secretary, Mr. H. Sidford; programme organiser, Mr. J. G. Oliver; Press representatives, Messrs. S. M. D. Smith and C. Spratt; committee, Messrs. J. G. Oliver,. J. L. White, C. Spratt, and N. J. Glover.
The evening was brought to a conclusion by an impromptu speech competition.
