UPPER HUTT COURT
Cases in the Upper Hutt Court yesterday were, dealt with by Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M.
For exceeding 30 m.p.h. in the borough William Henry Simpson was fined £2 and costs.
Desmond Denis Hyan was fined £2 and costs for negligently driving a motor-car on the main roa.d.
Denis William Grimwood was fined 10s and costs for cycling at night without a-light and for aiding and abetting in the commission of this offence Alexander Beaton, who was riding on the handle-bars, was fined a similar amount.
For failing to clear ragwort from a small portion of his land, David Pretty was ordered to pay costs.. On charges of riding bicycles at night without a light, William Oliver Thomas and Valeric Janes were each fined 10s and costs.
George Maurice Williamson was fined £1 and costs for not carrying a warrant of fitness with his vehicle and on a similar charge Walter Smith was fined 15s and costs.
Not having ■ a heavy traffic licence cost Francis John O'Riley 10s and costs. Frederick Rigby was fined £2 and costs for driving in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public, and on a similar charge George Henry Mooney was fined £3 and costs. For not having a warrant of fitness Mooney was fined 10s and costs. A charge against Charles Henry Braddock of negligently driving his motor truck was dismissed. The defendant was represented by Mr. E. S. Tuckwell. The case concerned an accident to a lady who was knocked down on the main road opposite the courthouse by the defendant's truck. The Magistrate said he could not convict, as the lady had left the pedestrian crossing.
