FATAL AIR CRASH
NEW ZEALAND PILOT

DUNEDIN, April 29. Mr. Colin Calder Byar, the New ZJealander who was trapped in the cabin of his aeroplane when it crashed in Surrey, England, on Tuesday last, died two days later as a result of head injuries he received. The crash was a serious one, and it took a dozen policemen to extricate Mr. Byar and his New Zealand friend, Mr. Ernest Ratcliffe, from the wreckage.
Mr. Byar's home was in Dunedin, and he was a son of Mrs. Mary Byar, Belleknowes, .and of the late Mr. William Price Byar, Little River. He was educated at Otago Boys' High School, and' was successful in obtaining his "A" licence while still at school, and was one of the youngest- and most promising pilots to be trained by the1 Otago Aero Club. Shortly after leaving school he went to England, and was successful in obtaining a shortterm commission in the Royal Air Force. He was 25 years of age.
