ROAD TRANSPORT
+ A RAILWAY RESPONSIBILITY (Special to the "Evening Post.") NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. The largest motor transport service in New Zealand will be taken over by the Railway Department on Monday. No time-table or freight alteration! are known. ' The Railway Department recently purchased the service of Highways Transport Company, Ltd., which has its head office at Palmerston North. Three other services, Hardy's Transport, Ltd., Wellington, the Cunningham Carrying Company, Ltd., Wellington, and S/Wright and Company, Ltd., Wanganui, have also been purchased. Highways Transport serves Taranaki, Hawke's Bay, and Wellington, its area extending over 660 miles of road. It has more than 40 vehicles and last year they covered more-than 1,000,000 miles. It is not known when the three smaller companies will be taken over by the Department.
