MAYOR'S APPOINTMENT
(By Telegraph—Prese Association.) ELTHAM, April 19. Mr. Ira J.- Bridger, who has been a members of the Eltham Borough Council for a period of twenty years, thirteen continuously .as Mayor, has announced that he will not be a candidate at the May election. In addition to the Borough Council, Mr. Bridger has been connected with every institution in Eltham. He was largely responsible for the organisation, of the town's jubilee celebration, and it was mainly through his efforts that the j new school and war memorial gates were erected. He was also responsible I for the establishment of the children's | play area named after him.
Mr. Bridger has accepted the position of director-general and organiser for the New Zealand Red Cro"ss Society, and will take up his duties in May.
