TWO CLEVER GIRLS
MUSICIANS' LONDON SUCCESS
The Rev. E. O. Blamires and Mrs. Blamires, of Crawford Road, Kilbimie, have received news that their two elder daughters, Misses Betty and Vivienne Blamires, recently scored a success,in a musical recital at the Royal College of Music, London. The concert :took place on February 22, and the programme included the following number's;— Mis- Vivienne Blamires, violinist played Sinding's "Suite in A Minor," "Bagatelle" (Ireland), "Caprice" (Reed), "Au Petit Saint Jean" (McEwen), and "The Tenpenny Bit" (Hughes). The four last-named pieces were-all composed by members of the R.C.M. teaching" staff. Miss Betty Blamires, pianist, chose for her solos "Sea-Prelude" (Palmgren), "Idylle" (Metdner), "The Juggleress" (Moszkowski), "Etude, No, 12, ,op. 25" (Chopin). A further number was the "Sonata in E Minor," for violin and pianoforte, in which the sisters collaborated.
The recital attracted a crowded audience which accorded the performers a well-deserved ovation, and many beautiful gifts of flowers were received by the Misses Blamires.
These talented sisters, it was stated, have showed all-round musicianship and versatility of a high order in other concerts and. their services have -been in considerable request at various musical functions in the metropolis. Besides being an excellent pianist, Miss Betty Blamires has composed a concerto for piano and orchestra, and, in addition, she is an elocutionist and reciter much above the average. Miss Vivienne Blamires has developed her vocal powers and possesses a charming soprano voice, besides which she has appeared in the exceptional feminine role of conductress, her ability to control-a large orchestra haying 'roused much favourable comment!
The Misses Blamires are on the point of completing their three-year course at the X.C.M. and .plan to return to New Zealand in September next.
