Acuity is not likely to be at a long price in the Improvers' Handicap at Ashburton after her convincing display at Banks Peninsula on March 5. She covered a mile and a quarter in 2min 49 4-ssec on that occasion, and was a shade unlucky in the running. After her splendid victory at Awapuni on Saturday, Purina will take a power of beating in the Moturoa Handicap at the Taranaki Meeting this weekend. . '

I The arrival of three more Australian pacers in Joy's John, Our Walla, and Kernel Lv will stimulate interest in the approaching Inter-Dominion Championships, and their track efforts will attract plenty of attention. Taruna has proved "rather disappointing recently, but he is a nice colt and should not be discarded for these failures. He is still on the improve. In classic races the northern-owned colt Sandusky has fallen a trifle short of the best class, but he should be equal to gaining a place in the Futurity Stakes at Ashburton. ' ' Adversity was not started at the Manawatu Trotting Club's Annual Meeting, but there is nothing amiss with the gelding, and he will probably be seen out at New Plymouth. The president of the Auckland Trotting Club, Mr. E. G. Bridgens, attended a trotting meeting at Harold Park, Sydney, recently, and was impressed with the class of horses racing there. He is on a business trip, and will be unable to return for the Championships at Addington. . A repetition of her Awapuni form should see Policy in the picture all the way in the Taranaki Trotting Cup, and her prospects appeal strongly. Writer, who has been off the scene for a considerable time, is among the acceptors in the big trot at Ashburton. At his best he would have a chance, but they cannot last for ever. M. Holmes is pleased with the way Pot Luck is executing his training, and the Jack Potts gelding can be expected to rejoin the winning list before the season is finalised. . Chili Bean is racing very disappointingly, and he will have to improve a great deal upon recent efforts to credit his owner with a winning stake. He is' apt to spoil an excellent chance by breaking for no apparent reason.
