TO ENCOURAGE TRAINING

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —It occurs to me that an idea that is already in use could be,extended, and might be instrumental in gaining more recruits for the Wellington Regiment.. The regiment is, I'believe, affiliated to the Home Regiment the York and L'ancs. Regiment. Maybe there are many lads who would join, say, a Scotch company and wear the thistle, or an Irish company where the shamrock could be worn. I would join a Colonial'lrish Battalion like a shot. My idea may be impracticable, but it might be modified to provide for separate companies of direct Irish, Scotch, English, and Welsh descent, and .New Zealanders. Just imagine the keenness there would be for the honour of ' being the- crack company.—l • am, etc.,

LOYAL ULSTERMAN.
