RIFLE SHOOTING
PETONE V. MASTERTON.
OPAKI
A team comprising nearey half the membership of the Petone Rifle Club journeyed to Masterton at the weekend and fired a friendly teams match against the local club. The ranges were 800 and 900 yards (10 shots), and for the' most part the shooting conditions wfere; difficult on account of thev wind.
It was decided to fire a teams match of the highest 5, 10, and 15 scores in each club, and it resulted as follows: Masterton-Opaki,. 452, 884—1201; Petone, 448, 879—1294. After the shooting both teams adjourned for tea, and1 President H. H. Mawley (Masterton:Opaki) expressed his pleasure at being able to welcome the Petone Club on their visit in such strong numbers so far afleld, and hoped that this would be only one of m£ny such enjoyable outings.
Mr. W. M. Jackson, in reply, congratulated the Masterton-Opaki members on their success in the 5- and 10----men aside matches, and said how pleased the Petone members were to fire friendly matches against country clubs from time to time. The Suburbs Defence Rifle Club held a practice shoot at Trentham over 300 yards range on Saturday. The weather was good.
