WIN FOR INSTITUTE

With half an hour to spare, Institute captured , the last University wicket on the main wicket at the Basin Reserve. Stumps. were then drawn, Institute winning by 35 runs on the first innings. An excellent knock for 71 by Ongley was the high light of University's innings; indeed, but for Wilson's 32, it was the only score above 20. He scored freely and confidently on both sides of the wicket and reached the boundary six times. He had difficulty in keeping a partner, however, the highest partnership being 49 for the eighth wicket, of which Stepbenson scored 9 and Ongley 40. Institute, resuming with 177 on for five wickets, did not find the "soft wicket to their liking and could in-. crease, their tally by: only 43. A. McLean, who had had bis eye well in on the previous Saturday, added only 3 to his 27 before he went Ibw to Stephenson. His partner, Bilby, had been happier, and reached 25. He was' then bowled by Stephenson, and seven wickets were gone for 202. With the exception of McKeown, who failed to score, the last batsmen were consistently modest. McLeod, Crook fnot, ouO, and Buchan oach scoring 7.

Stephenson was in form with t^r ball. Inking six wickets for 74. Ho kept a good length and used the pitcli

to the best advantage. The innings closed at 1.35 for 220.

Wilson, in first wicket down for University, was the only serious opposition to Institute's attack before the arrival of Ongley at the fifth wicket. His 32 runs were collected competently, and his defence was sound until he lifted an*, easy one back to the bowler, A. McLean.

Ongley opened briskly, and as he became more used to the varying light and tricks of the wicket his scoring rate increased steadily His placing was neatly-judged, and at times he saw that he got the majority of the bowling Stephenson played a solid defensive innings while Ogley scored 40 of his runs, "Extras," 24, were the third highest tally of the innings. Crook, three for 36, and A. McLean, three for S3. shared the bowling honours. Details:— INSTITUTE. First Innings. R. McLean.
