Tne Hawke Cup cricket match between South Auckland and Manawatu was resumed in threatening and humid weather. The* wicket rolled out well after weekend rain and was not seriously affected. In thejirst over by, Lissette Murchison just touched the fifth delivery for Skeet to take a catch behind the wickets. J. Ongley joined McVicar, but soon afterwards was dismissed by a full toss from Lissette. 109—3—2. The scoring rate was slow, 14 runs coming in the, first half-hour. Lissette gained his third wicket when he dismissed Norris in the next over, Clough taking a catch. ' Gallichan joined McVicar who, in the fourth ball of,Clough's next over, failed to stop a fast _one Which took off the bail. McVicar had been batting for 210 minutes for 53 runs. Pollitt, the newcomer, stayed, ,twenty minutes before spooning a ball from Clough to Aitken for a catch. 159_6_8. Gallichan soon afterwards Was caught by Bright off M. Lyon. The' outlook for Manawatu became dark indeed. At noon they had lost seven wickets for 165. i Cameron joined Pritchard, but the latter was at the wickets only a quarter of an hour for 4, Clough getting his off stump. Only two wickets remained with the defenders still 116 runs behind. The Hatch-Cameron partnership lasted only ten minutes, the latter, being clean-bowled with a perfect ball from' M. Lyon.
