CARPENTERS FROM HOME
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February 13. Fourteen English carpenters under engagement to the Fletcher Construction Company, Ltd., , arrived by the Rangitiki on Saturday from" England. They have been promised work for three years, although: they-state that they are under no actual contract. "Building construction has fallen' off in England, and work there is now harder to get in our trade," said one of them. "We are to be paid the usual rate of wages and have paid ,our own passages, and* we expect to work under the Government housing contracts."
In addition, there were one or two carpenters who have come .to New Zealand on their own account
The arrivals under engagement complete a list of 124 carpenters and joiners engaged by the company in London, ' .
