PENGPU CAPTURED
NEXT OBJECTIVE SUCHOW
(Received February 3, 11.35 a.m.) SHANGHAI, February 2. The Domei news agency says 'that the Japanese captured Pengpu, north-west of Nanking, on the railway to Suchowi after heavy fighting. Japan thus controls more than half the southern section of the Tientsin-Pukow railway. The next objective is the Suchow junction. ; | The Chinese destroyed the railway jridge on the Hwairi River, south of Pengpu, to which reinforcements were hastened from Suchow. The Japanese announce the capture of Fengyang, sixteen miles from Pengpu. The American missionaries Mr. and1 Mrs. Harsh and Miss Neher have been missing since December 2. A story, is current that a Japanese sentry shot them for. failing to .give the password and buried the bodies.
