A tribute to the late M£ Louis E. Ward v;as paid by the Mayor (Mri T; C. A; Hislop) at. the meeting held in the Concert Chamber yesterday, to consider matters.regarding the 1940.'.{Centennial.' Captain J. H. Murch, formerly on the China and .Indian trade ; routes, -who has been visiting Wanganui, leaves tomorrow for Melbourne, en route for India.

Mr. C. H. Hudson left Wellington for the north by this afternoon's'express. Captain B. McDonald, of the .Union Steam Ship Company, will leave Wellington for the north, by the Limited express tonight.

The Hon. G. R. Hunter, M.L.C., was a passenger from the south this morning.

Mr. A. E. Hynes, secretary to the Wellington City Adjustment Commissions, has been transferred on promotion to Rotorua as clerk of the Magistrate's Court there. He will also be registrar of electors, returning officer, and registrar of births, deaths, and marriages.. The transfer will not yet take effect. -

Mr. W. G. Mason, second 'deputyregistrar at the Supreme Court, Wellington, has received notice of transfer to the Auckland Supreme Court as senior, deputy-registrar. Mr. Mason haa been at 'the Supreme Court in Wellington for twenty-four years. - "

TWcCowan,' of the"*Accounis.Department of the Shell Co. of New 'Zea-. land Ltd., was the recipient of a presentation volume to mark the honour to which he had attained in gaining first place in New' Zealand m the recent examination' for admission as a member of the institute.
