£50 AND TEN SHILLINGS

REPRESENTATIONS TO BE

RENEWED

In view of recurring mistakes by the public with the £50 and the ten-shil-ling notes of the Reserve Bank, the executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand decided at a meeting today to renew its representations in favour of more distinguishable notes being issued. Attention was drawn to the number of recent cases in different parts of the country where notes of the larger value had been handed out in mistake for ten-shilling notes, owing to the similarity in colouring. It was reported that it was in June, 1935, that the Governor of the Reserve Bank had said that, when a completely new series of notes was issued, a distinction would be made between the notes complained of.

The meeting further decided to ask for the issue of notes of the denomination of ten pounds so as to meet commercial requirements.
