A'storm of unusual severity swe?pt Hawke's Bay last evening,- doing considerable damage to orchards antd plantations. Heavy rain fell throughout the night and continues toda;sf. Rivers are rising. rapidly. There was| no sign of the weather clearing at noon.' The rainfall for the 24 hours to 9fj o'clock this morning was 9Jin,- a re-«j cord 2£hour rainfall for Hastings.
