DRAW FOR POSITIONS
(Received January 25, 2.35 p.m.)
SYDNEY, This Day.
All the Empire Games oarsmen are in camp at a hotel six miles from the course on the Nepean River, to which they were conveyed in buses. The New Zealand manager, coach, and coxes were taken over the course, with which they were completely satisfied, while the rest of the crew rigged the boats. The crews will row both this morning and this afternoon.
Smith had his outrigger fitted with new canvas, and it is expected to be ready today. The rowing managers of each team met and approved of the course that has been surveyed. j
The draw for positions in the events resulted:—Eights: 1, England; 2, Australia; 3, New Zealand. Fours: 1, New Zealand; 2, Australia; 3, Canada. Single sculls: 1, England; 2, Australia; 3, New Zealand.
An additional event, an invitation double sculls race, has been added to the programme. This is intended primarily to give the English emergencies a race. The New. Zealanders Jackson and Smith will participate if they are able to secure a boat.
