RACING AT THAMES
TOMORROW'S FINE FIELDS
(Special from "Early Bird.")
AUCKLAND, This Day
With quality fields such as have never before been seen at this centre the Thames Jockey Club's Annual Meeting tomorrow and on Monday is going to be the best since the boom days. Not only is the class far superior, in both hack and open events,-than m the past, but the numbers arc also there. The course promises to be hard ana fast. The betting will be conducted under the win-and-place system. With a big field engaged in the ■prin-j cipal race, the Goldfields Cup, betting should take a wide range. Scotland appears to have mislaid his form ana his showing will indicate just what his prospects are in the Takapuna Cup a week later. Grateful comes from i. ID. Smith's very successful stable, ana while he failed twice at Ellerslie his runaway win in the Te Awamutu Cup a fortnight earlier was impressive. Sergia is apparently improving in stamina, for she won at Whangarei and New Plymouth and is nicely placed here if she is good enough. Bona Bay is< a good type for this event and as srie is in excellent fettle, despite defeats in the south during the holidays, she may make amends. Sinking Fund looks like being one»of the favourites, for, while he failed to gain a place at Ellerslie, he went a couple of good races, finishing fourth in the Summer Cup. He won the Goldfields Cup twelve months ago over weak opposition. ■
