FAREWELL TO WINNER
DEANNA DURBIN QUEST
Mr. W. A. Hislop, general manager for New Zealand of Universal Pictures, Ltd., which promoted the recent Deanna Durbin contest, gave a special luncheon at the Hotel St. George yesterday for the dual purpose of saying farewell to Miss June Barson, the winner of the Deanna Durbin contest, on her departure for Sydney, and to compliment x those responsible for organising the Deanna Durbin quest throughout New Zealand.
Mr. Hislop thanked the Mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, for his presence. In replying, the Mayor said he wished Miss Barson bon voyage and a safe return to New Zealand, and he congratulated all who had made possible the discovery of New Zealand's Deanna Durbin.
tt Mr. W. Burtpn, general manager of Sir John Fuller and Sons, Ltd., after congratulatory remarks, presented Miss Barson with a cheque and a personal letter to Sir Benjamin Fuller.
Mr. Hislop also presented the winner with a cheque on behalf of Universal Pictures and a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the Wellington staff.
