MITCHELL CASE
MEDICAL EXAMINATION
The secretary of the New Zealand, Olympic and British Empire Games Association, Mr. H. Amos, advised today that arrangements had been made for the Chief Medical Officer of the Health Department at Auckland to examine Miss M. Mitchell, the Auckland javelin thrower, who was unable to leave with the New. Zealand team for the British Empire Games last night because she had been declared by the team's medical adviser to be suffering from German measles on her arrival here.
The arrangements for the examination in Auckland have been made through the Director-General of Health (Dr. M. H. Watt). Mr. Amos that if the chief medical officer at Auckland gives Miss Mitchell a clearance and is satisfied that it will not be contrary to the interests of ■ public health for her to travel she will be sent on to Sydney by the Awatea, leaving Auckland on January 26. After her arrival at Wellington from Auckland on Wednesday morning, instructions were given for Miss Mitchell to be isolated. It was thought she was in the isolation ward at Wellington Hospital, but, as reported in yesterday's "Post," she arrived at Auckland yesterday morning, to the surprise of the team and other officials at Wellington.
