AIR FORCE MACHINES

NEW RONGOTAI HANGAR

A start has been made with the preliminary work on the foundations for a new hangar at Rongotai, to house some of the Blackburn Baffin general purpose aeroplanes which are being secured from England for the training and reconnaissance duties of the Wellington Squadron of the Territorial Air Force as part of the programme of development of the air defence of New Zealand.

The new hangar will be erected a little to the east of the Wellington Aero Club's pavilion, and will be complete with workshop and overhaul facilities, but the larger number of the 12 Baffins ordered for the Wellington squadron will be housed at Ohakea, near Feilding, where two large hangars are to be built as part of the facilities for a new base of the R.N.Z.A.F.

Construction of a new hangar at Rongotai involves the moving of the anemometer house, which will be reerected near , the Kingsford Smith Street boundary of the aerodrome.
