THOUSANDS OF CASES

FIGURES FOR LAST YEAR

Over seven thousand criminal cases were dealt with by Magistrates and Justices of the Peace at the Magistrate's Court at Wellington during the past year. Court statistics show that 7498 criminal cases were recorded. If the 702 cases heard in the Children's Court are taken into account the total reaches 8200.

In addition to criminal cases a number of civil cases were- dealt with. The number of plaints dealt with in four quarters were 1516, 1735, 1386, 1379. The total amounts sued for in those periods were £30,524, £28,498 14s 9d, £17,482 13s 9d, and £21,055 Is respectively.'
