LIFE ENJOYED BY NURSE

Inured to the warm climate of South Africa by many years of residence there, a long route to England is being taken by Mrs. J. IS.' Donald, of Johannesburg, who, with her husband, arrived at Auckland by the Wanganeila on Friday, states the "New Zealand Herald." in an effort to avoid the rigours of an English winter. Captain and Mrs. Donald will spend nearly' a month in New Zealand, and will then visit the West Indies before going to England, where they will in future reside.

Mrs. Donald lived for many years in Johannesburg, where her interests, which are many., included native missionary work, nursing, and the Girl Guide movement Herself an Englishtrained nurse/ Mrs. Donald followed the progress of this profession in South Africa with keen interest, and considers the country.aland of excellent opportuhityfor women who follow this walk of life.' :

"Working conditions are good and the pay is excellent," Mrs. Donald said. "There seems to be no unemployment among nurses, some of whom have large private practices, while the immense and finely-equipped 'hospitals in Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg absorb large numbers. The hos-

pitals in these cities are excellently run and up-to-date hi every particular," she continued. Life in cities such as Johannesburg was exceedingly gay and social, Mrs. Donald said. The residents were'very keen, on all forms of sports and games, for, although the climate was hot, it •was also very invigorating.
