BURNS PROVE FATAL
EXPLOSION OF PETROL

The death occurred at the Waihi Hospital on Saturday afternoon of Frederick Augustus Cartman, aged 52, as the result.of an explosion of benzine at his home on Friday evening. Cartman and his son, aged 20, were mjhe kitchen with the stove alight- Ihe former was carrying a bottle containing benzine intending to use some tor a cigarette lighter. It is thought that the heat of the stove acting on the volatile nature of the spirit caused an explosion. The bottle was shattered below the neck, the cork remaining intact. Cartman was severely burnedj on the face, arms, and body. His son escaped with lesser injuries and is making recovery in:hospital.
