The fire broke out in the load of the lorry, and the driver was about.a mile up the hill before he was aware that anything was wrong, by which time it had obtained so firm a hold that ■it was impossible to gat near enough to fight it, although Inspector Owen, of the Automobile Association, and a passing lorry driver did their best. The lorry was destroyed, and the charred remains provided an object of interest to passing motorists during the weekend.
