LORRY BURNT ON MUNGAROA HILL

' A lorry, owned by Mr. W. McGill, of .Featherston, was destroyed by fire on the Mungaroa Hill early on Saturday afternoon. The fire broke out in the load of the lorry, and the driver was about.a mile up the hill before he was aware that anything was wrong, by which time it had obtained so firm a hold that ■it was impossible to gat near enough to fight it, although Inspector Owen, of the Automobile Association, and a passing lorry driver did their best. The lorry was destroyed, and the charred remains provided an object of interest to passing motorists during the weekend.

Mr. H. E. Jarman, manager of the Christchurch Tramways, arrived by the steamer express yesterday. He will tour the North Island and will return to Christchurch on January 3.
