MILK-IN-SCHOOLS SCHEME

At the annual meeting of the Automobile 'Association. (MSnawatu), Mr. W. H. Brown was elected president. The meeting expressed appreciation of the work of Mr. N. H. Mackie during the past six years. ■ Mr. Mackie declined re-election on account of being absent from the city most of .his time.
The milk-in-schools scheme was initiated in Palmerston North on Wednesday and the manner in which the distribution was carried out speaks volumes for the .organisation behind it. The scheme provides for the distribution of 200 gallons and more daily of milk pasteurised at the Dairy Research Institute
The building of State houses.. in Palmerston North has been progressing rapidly, some of the thirty to be provided being nearly completed. A suggestion that the rents to be charged were too high was voiced at the annual 'meeting of the West End Progressive Association. .. The city is being decorated for the diamond jubilee celebrations, which commence on Saturday. The initial event will be the liberation of _. birds entered' in homing pigeon iraces ! to Wharigarei, Auckland, Gisb&rne, New Plymouth, Te 'Aroha, Wellington,. menhir ; and: Nelson.
