; The annual meeting of the, Weliington Central Branch of the Women's Christian Temperance ..Union was held in the Y.W.C.A. rooms recently. Mrs. Israel (president) was in the. chair.
The temperance fact given out was: "Police statistics for the past year in New Zealand show offences.to be over 2000 more than in the previous year. Drunkenness increased by over 1000 cases." '
The members appointed to visit the hospital this month were Mesdames Weldon, Morton, Morris, and Ingram, Annual reports were given by the officers of the different departments showing that a successful year had just finished. Miss and Mrs. Benell gave great pleasure by rendering the sacred duet "Jesus Will," and Miss Benell in tHe solo "Consecration." Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Andrews and her helpers.
All' the officers were re-elected for next year's work. Mrs. Israel was warmly welcomed on resuming the presidential chair. When, thanking the members for their loyalty and work during the past year, she said they had, in her first year as president, helped her over the;difficulties and she was sure, by re-electing her to that office, they were prepared to do so again. They had a hard year ahead, and every member was needed to do her best.
