Y.M.C.A. AFFAIRS
It was reported to yesterday's: meeting of the y.M.C.A. that the boys1': cara^:''-hut: at Otaki had V been newly; painted recently by a Working party' under the direction o£ Mr. G. I. B. Thomas, chairman of the boys' department;- This hall would be .used for dining and assembly purposes during the summer camp for boys, who would sleep in tents. An excellent camp site has again ,:been provided: by the cour-; tesy of Mr.-G.H. Harper.
The board decided to proceed, as soon:as practicable after the'arrival of the new general secretary of the asso-i ciation, with the •financial campaign previously postponed. Ith^Hbeen intended to/laurich an appeal earlier this year for the purpose of reducing the overhead expenditure on the main building, and r also for. ■ providing an endowment for- the rapidly-expanding work of the boys, This \effort, however, had been deferred-owing to the incidence of the King : Gegrge V Memorial appeal.-
The secretary's-report-submitted to the directors showed that the month of October had beeri extremely ■ busy in all branches of the association's work. The various winter clubs : had been brought to a successful conclusion and arrangements made for ; the : summer activities. The gymnasium enrolment totals 527< while- 242 boys were enrolled in the all-round clubs providing for physical'instruction, social games, firstaid 'classes, devotional sessions, -arid educationaKfeatures. -Twenty-six new members were' enrolled, including the Hon. Simon Monckton Arundel, who, having recently turned , eight years of age,' had: been enabled' to v join ■ the gymnasium class specially conducted for younger boys by Mr. J. F. HannaV;
